Ghana and Gabon Sign Two MoUs to Boost Trade and Diplomatic Cooperation
Ghana and Gabon have signed two Memoranda of Understanding to deepen trade, investment and diplomatic cooperation, as both countries move to translate longstanding political ties into concrete economic partnerships.
The agreements were signed on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Jubilee House in Accra during bilateral talks between the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the President of the Gabonese Republic, H.E. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
The first is a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Government of the Republic of Ghana and the Government of the Gabonese Republic.
The second is a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Diplomats’ Training between Ghana’s Foreign Service Institute and Gabon’s Institute of Diplomatic Studies.
The meeting formed part of President Oligui Nguema’s three-day official visit to Ghana.
The talks were preceded by a tête-à-tête and held in an atmosphere of cordiality, mutual respect and African solidarity. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing sustainable economic development for the benefit of their peoples.
President Mahama and President Oligui Nguema reviewed the current state of relations and expressed satisfaction with the warm diplomatic ties between Accra and Libreville. They agreed to intensify cooperation with particular emphasis on expanding bilateral trade, investment and private sector collaboration.
The two Presidents also reiterated their commitment to leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area to boost intra-African trade and regional economic integration.
To guide this expanded cooperation, the leaders identified several strategic sectors for collaboration, including trade and investment, mining and mineral value addition, oil and gas, energy, agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, forestry and climate action, maritime affairs, education, digital transformation, health, tourism, and defence and security.
They directed the relevant Ministries and institutions to develop practical frameworks to facilitate cooperation in these areas.
