GAF Clears 122km of Accra-Kumasi Expressway Corridor
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has cleared 122 kilometres of the Right-of-Way for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway as of July 22, 2026.
This represents about 70 per cent of the 176-kilometre corridor, the Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, disclosed on July 22, 2026, while delivering the Mid-Year Budget Review.
The Minister said the clearing was done in just 12 weeks.
The entire 120-metre-wide Right-of-Way is expected to be fully cleared by the first week of September 2026.
The Minister described the Accra-Kumasi Expressway as the flagship project under the government’s Big Push Programme. The project involves the construction of a 176-kilometre, six-lane, bidirectional expressway linking Ghana’s two largest commercial cities.
According to him, when completed, the expressway will reduce travel time between Accra and Kumasi to about two hours as well as improve road safety, ease congestion, and lower transport costs.
The project will feature interchanges and bridges, intelligent modern transport systems, electronic tolling, emergency response facilities and rest areas.
