GACL Deploys New Security Screening Equipment at Accra International Airport

The Ghana Airports Company Limited has announced the deployment of new, state-of-the-art security screening equipment at the passenger screening checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of Accra International Airport.
In a public notice issued by GACL Management, the company said the upgrade is aimed at enhancing aviation security screening while improving the overall passenger experience.
According to the notice, the new system will bring significant changes for travelers passing through AIA.
Passengers will no longer be required to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from their cabin baggage during screening.
Footwear and belts may also remain on unless otherwise required during security profiling.
The company further stated that Liquids, Aerosols and Gels can now remain in cabin bags during screening, as separate screening of LAGs may no longer be required.
However, GACL cautioned that existing security regulations still prohibit liquids in containers exceeding 100ml per container.
Another key feature of the upgrade is the introduction of an Automatic Tray Return System.
The system is designed to quickly return trays to passengers for repacking of divested items, a move expected to reduce waiting times and speed up processing at security checkpoints.
GACL noted that the migration to the new system will be done progressively in phases and will run alongside existing procedures and equipment.
The Airports Company urged all passengers and stakeholders to cooperate as operations with the new equipment commence in the coming days.
