Education Ministry Demands Swift Police Investigation into Zohe EP Primary School Shooting

The Ministry of Education has demanded a swift investigation by the Ghana Police Service following a shooting incident at Zohe Evangelical Presbyterian Primary School in Yendi, Northern Region, that left the school headmaster injured.

In a statement released on July 9, 2026, the Ministry condemned the attack in which two armed men allegedly stormed the school premises and fired shots indiscriminately, causing panic among pupils and staff.

According to preliminary reports cited by the Ministry, the headmaster was assaulted during the incident and sustained injuries.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education, has directed the Police to give the matter urgent attention.

The Ministry said such acts of violence have no place in schools, which it described as “sacred spaces dedicated to teaching, learning, and the holistic development of children.”

The Ministry emphasised that the use of firearms and intimidation on school premises constitute a grave threat to the safety and well-being of learners, teachers, and the entire educational community.

It also called on the public to desist from encroaching into schools.

It expressed solidarity with the affected pupils, staff, and the injured headmaster, wishing him a speedy recovery.

The Ministry further assured parents and guardians that it will work closely with security agencies to ensure all schools remain safe and secure for teaching and learning.

The Ministry urged anyone with information that could assist investigations to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service.
