DVLA Denies GHc308K Theft Allegation, Says Matter Is A Personal Dispute

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has denied reports that GHc308,000 was stolen from the Authority by a National Service Personnel, saying the money in question does not belong to the DVLA.

The Authority said this while responding to a media publication with the headline: “DVLA Service Personnel allegedly steals GHc308K to purchase Hyundai Elantra saloon car, a Samsung 50-inch television set and pay sibling’s school fees.”

In a statement, the DVLA said it had taken notice of the publication and wished to categorically state that the alleged amount was not stolen from the Authority or any of its accounts.

According to the DVLA, the matter under investigation is a personal dispute between two individuals.

The person mentioned in the report is a former National Service Personnel who is currently engaged by the Authority on contract.

“At no point has the Authority suffered any financial loss in relation to this case,” the statement said.

The Authority explained that while the individual is attached to the DVLA, the alleged offence is not connected to the operations, finances, or official activities of the Authority.

It described as inaccurate and misleading any suggestion that the DVLA was the victim of the alleged theft.

The DVLA reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.

It added that it has confidence in the due process of the law and will cooperate fully with the police should the need arise.

The Authority also urged media houses and the public to exercise restraint and accuracy in reporting on the matter to avoid creating the erroneous impression that public funds belonging to the DVLA have been misappropriated.

The DVLA further assured the public that its financial systems remain secure and that its operations continue uninterrupted.
