Sierra Leonean Envoy Seeks Audience With Ablakwa After ‘Mistreatment’ of Deported National

The current High Commissioner of Sierra Leone in Accra, HE Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, has sought an emergency audience with Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The envoy seeks to discuss the “inhumane’ handling of a female Sierra Leonean deported among about 20 others to Ghana by the US.
This was communicated by lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
The said woman, described as a registered nurse who lived in the US for 35 years, was forcibly removed from her hotel room by officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at the Vicsem Hotel in Ogbojo, a suburb of Accra, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
The woman reportedly pleaded with officers to allow her to remain in Ghana, saying she had no family in Sierra Leone.
Her appeal was rejected, and she is said to have suffered an asthma attack during the altercation.
Ghana has reached an agreement with the USA to receive individuals that the US cannot deport to their home countries due to fears of persecution or torture.
