Asantehene Makes First Fofie Visit to Newly Enstooled Asantehemaa

In observance of Fofie, a sacred day on the Akan calendar, the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, paid a visit to the Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Yaa Akyaa II, at her Palace.
The visit is a mandatory tradition observed on every Fofie after the King performs the necessary rites for the day.
The occasion was used to exchange pleasantries between the two Majesties.
The Asantehene’s visit came a day after the Majesties’ first public encounter at the Manhyia Palace and the formal announcement of the Asantehemaa’s enstoolment to the Kumasi Traditional Council.
Queens Homage
At the time of the Asantehene’s visit, over 20 Paramount Queens had converged at Her Majesty’s Palace to welcome and pay homage to her.
The delegation was led by Nana Agyakoma Difie II, Asante Mamponghemaa, and included Nana Akyampomaa Ntansa Yiadom III, Agonahemaa; Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III, Offinsohemaa; and Nana Agyeiwaa Paamu II, Tepahemaa.
Other members of the delegation were Nana Akua Ameyawhene II, Berekumhemaa; Nana Darkowaa Ampem Kyerewaa II, Yamfohemaa; Nana Animah Antwi Konama II, Denyaasehemaa; Nana Nyarko Aboraa Sika III, Manso Nkwantahemaa; and Nana Adwoa Po Dwamena Serwaa II, Bechemhemaa.
About Fofie
Fofie is a sacred day of rest on the Akan calendar set aside for venerating and honouring ancestors.
It falls 9 days after Awukudae and 9 days before the next Akwasidae.
