Police Sports Unit Introduces Arm Wrestling, Tug-Of-War to Academy Cadet Officers

The Ghana Police Service Sports Unit has officially commenced a strategic partnership with the Police Academy aimed at promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and greater participation in sports among Cadet Officers.
On Wednesday, 1st July 2026, the Arm Wrestling and Tug-of-War Team of the Ghana Police Service Sports Unit conducted an engaging training and demonstration session with approximately 300 Course 54 Cadet Officers during their scheduled games period at the Police Academy.
The initiative forms part of a broader collaboration between the Police Sports Unit, under the leadership of ASP Bernice Rashidatu Abdulai Timbilla, Director of Sports, and the Police Academy to introduce the various sporting disciplines within the Ghana Police Service to Cadet Officers.
The programme is designed to foster stronger relationships between future police leaders and the Sports Unit while encouraging regular physical activity in support of the principle that a healthy body promotes a healthy mind.
The Arm Wrestling and Tug-of-War Team was led by ASP Asong Ayrakwa, with support from Chief Inspector Anthony Mensah (Head Coach), Chief Inspector Rudolph Welbeck (Team Manager), PW/Chief Inspector Linda Akoma, PW/Sergeant Alberta Amponsah, and other team members.
The Director of Sports was represented by a delegation from the Sports Unit led by ASP Benjamin Amissah, accompanied by PW/Chief Inspector Rebecca Botchway (Physiotherapist), Inspector Prince Kumashie (Sports Security Officer), PW/Inspector Patience Kpobi, and PW/Inspector Vivian Asamoah (Sports Chaplain).
The Police Academy team, led by Superintendent Boakye Ansah, DSP Abdul Jalil Bawah, and the Physical Training Instructors, coordinated the programme and ensured its successful execution.
The Cadet Officers participated enthusiastically in both sporting disciplines, demonstrating keen interest, teamwork, and competitive spirit throughout the session.
Their active participation reflects the growing success of the partnership and reinforces the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to developing physically fit, resilient, and disciplined officers.
The programme will continue on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the Police Academy as the Sports Unit introduces more sporting disciplines to the Cadet Officers as part of its ongoing sports development and wellness agenda.
