Ghana to Host 3rd China-West Africa Medical Expo
Ghana will host the 3rd China–West Africa Medical & Health Industry & AI Diagnosis & Project Cooperation Summit & Expo 2026 from August 19 to August 21.
The event will take place at the Ghana International Mall, as the government moves to strengthen health partnerships and drive technology adoption in the sector.
The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Health Community of West Africa Association, the Ghana Health Service, and other key partners, officially launched the event in Accra.
The summit is themed “Strengthening China–West Africa Health Partnerships Through Innovation, Investment, Technology and Sustainable Healthcare Development.”
The Ministry said the expo is aimed at advancing Ghana’s national health priorities, including free primary healthcare, digital health deployment, and the drive toward Universal Health Coverage.
Representing the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Dr Hafiz Adam, Acting Director of Technical Coordination at the Ministry, underscored government’s commitment to strategic healthcare investments, medical technology transfer, and sustainable bilateral partnerships between West Africa and China.
Mr Frank Lule, speaking on behalf of the WHO Country Representative, Dr Fiona Braka, emphasised the World Health Organisation’s support for evidence-based health policies, digital health innovation, and equitable access to healthcare across the region.
In a recorded video message, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, highlighted the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in medicine. He called on young innovators and health leaders across Africa and China to embrace technology to build resilient health systems.
Present at the launch were Madam Simhao Xiang, President of HCOWA and CEO of Essence Clinic and Medical Laboratory, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ghana Free Zones Authority, and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre.
The Ministry noted that the three-day summit will bring together policymakers, investors, health professionals, and technology firms from China and West Africa to explore partnerships in medical equipment, AI diagnostics, hospital projects, and health financing.
