Dep Trade Minister Hosts International Fellows to Deepen Trade and Development Cooperation
The Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, has hosted a delegation of 13 international fellows from Africa, the Caribbean and the United States of America to discuss Ghana’s trade, agribusiness and industrial development agenda and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The visit formed part of a follow-up engagement after an earlier meeting between the Ministry and African Start-ups and SMEs in Export Trade Secretariat (ASSETS) held two weeks ago.
It provided the fellows with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Ministry’s mandate, programmes and strategic priorities.
Discussions centred on key areas of mutual interest, including trade promotion, African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), transport and logistics, industrial development, agribusiness, institutional strengthening and educational collaboration.
The fellows also exchanged ideas with officials of the Ministry on how international partnerships can contribute to sustainable economic development.
Leading the delegation was Professor John Woods, Founder of the Garvey Nkrumah Fellowship Programme, who thanked the Deputy Minister for his warm reception and the valuable time spent engaging the delegation.
He noted that the interaction had provided the fellows with important insights into Ghana’s trade and industrial policies and commended the Ministry for its efforts to drive economic transformation.
Hon. Sampson Ahi welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Minister, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to promoting partnerships that support trade, investment, agribusiness and industrialisation.
He encouraged the fellows to leverage the knowledge gained during the visit to strengthen collaboration between Ghana and their respective countries.
The Deputy Minister further highlighted the Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for business, investment and industrial growth, stressing that international cooperation remains vital to achieving inclusive and sustainable development.
The delegation comprised fellows from the United States of America, Trinidad and Tobago, Ethiopia, Uganda, Nigeria, Barbados and Haiti, reflecting the Fellowship Programme’s objective of fostering leadership, cross-cultural exchange and stronger ties among Africa, the Caribbean and the United States.
The visit reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to engaging international partners in advancing Ghana’s trade, agribusiness and industrial transformation agenda while strengthening global partnerships for shared prosperity.
