CAF Outlines 2023 CHAN Tournament Cash Prizes

The winner of the 2023 African Nations Championship Cup (CHAN) tournament will receive an amount of USD 2 million as a cash prize.

This represents a 60% increase in cash price for the winner and is according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

According to CAF, this is in line with the Confederation’s strategy to “increase the commercial value of African competitions”.

It said money allocated for the 2023 tournament has been increased to US$ 7,900,000 from the US$ 5,450,000.

“The winner of this year’s trophy will receive $2million compared to the US$1,250,000 received by the previous champion two years ago”, it said in a statement.

Additionally, it said the runners-up will get US$800,000 while the third and fourth-placed teams will receive $500,000 each.

It continued, “the four sides that fail to progress beyond the quarter-finalists will get $400,000 each while the two countries that finish second in the groups of three teams will earn $300,000 each, the same amount as countries that finish third in groups of four teams. The bottom-placed teams in all the groups will earn $200,000 each.”

Ghana has qualified to the quarter final stage of the competition and will play against Niger on Saturday, January 28 at the Complexe Olympique d’Oran, Oran.

Rwandan Referee Samuel Uwikunda will officiate the game which will start at 8:00pm (7:00pm GMT).

He will be assisted by Hensley Danny Petrousse and Dieudonne Mutuyimana.
