2026 Mid-year Budget Review: Ghana’s Economy Is Now Firmly In Place – Finance Minister

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson says the foundations of Ghana’s economy are now firmly in place, backed by stronger growth, lower inflation, and improved fiscal discipline.

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament on Thursday, Dr Forson said key economic indicators are performing better than programmed.

“Economic growth is exceeding target, inflation is below the projected rate, fiscal performance is stronger than programmed, and the debt trajectory is improving faster than expected,” he told lawmakers.

The Minister said the stability is no longer just on paper but is being felt by ordinary Ghanaians.

“To the market trader whose purchasing power has improved, to the entrepreneur who can now borrow at lower interest rates to expand their businesses, and to the worker whose income now stretches further because the cedi has stabilised, these improvements are not abstract statistics. They are the dividends of sound and competent economic management,” he stated.

Dr Forson acknowledged that the process of economic recovery required significant sacrifices and that many households continue to face challenges.

However, he maintained that government has put the necessary structures in place to sustain progress.

“Fiscal discipline has been restored, macro stability has returned, confidence has been rebuilt, and the institutions needed to safeguard these things have been strengthened,” he noted.
