2026 Mid-Year Budget: 950,000 Ghanaians Moved Out of Multidimensional Poverty in 2025 – Finance Minister
The government says about 950,000 Ghanaians moved out of multidimensional poverty in 2025, as key social and economic indicators showed marked improvement over the past year.
Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, disclosed this during the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review presented to Parliament on Thursday.
According to him, multidimensional poverty, which measures deprivation across living conditions, education, health, and employment, declined from 24.9% in Q3 of 2024 to 21.9% in Q3 of 2025.
“This simply means that about 950,000 Ghanaians moved out of multidimensional poverty in just one year,” Dr Forson stated.
“Behind these numbers are hundreds of thousands of families who now enjoy better living conditions and greater hope for the future.”
The Minister also reported a drop in unemployment. He said the unemployment rate declined from 13.7% during the first three quarters of 2024 to 12.8% over the same period in 2025.
Dr Forson attributed the improvements to government interventions aimed at job creation, expanding access to social services, and strengthening household incomes.
He noted that the progress reflects the impact of ongoing economic recovery measures and the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of Ghanaians.
