Universities Must Apply Biting Sanctions To Eradicate Exam Malpractices- Eduwatch

The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch), Kofi Asare, has encouraged universities to apply stricter sanctions to sanitise higher education institutions in the country.

He applauded the University of Ghana (UG) for sanctioning over 100 students for engaging in various exam malpractices which he termed as a “cancer” in the education landscape.

“Considering that exam fraud is now a religion in secondary schools, our universities must apply biting sanctions to exorcise that cancer,” he wrote in a Facebook post on June 17.

According to him, the universities must show zero tolerance for exam fraud through the application of stiffer sanctions and the publishing of names of culprits.

“We await more action on the GPA rule from all universities.”

In his observation, WASSCE fraud is diluting the quality of students admitted into tertiary institutions.

Assessing the action of the university, he urged the school to hand over persons who impersonated in the exam to the police for prosecution, citing the criminality of the act.

“Since impersonation is criminal, I urge UG to hand such cases over to the Police.”
