2026 BECE: WAEC Sanctions 601 BECE Candidates Over Examination Malpractice 

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has sanctioned 601 candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for their involvement in examination malpractice.

The sanctions were approved at the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE, 2026, held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, following investigations into irregularities detected during the conduct of the examination and the marking of scripts.

According to WAEC, the subject results of 496 candidates have been cancelled, while the entire results of 105 candidates were also cancelled.

The Council further withheld the subject results of 119 candidates and the entire results of 48 candidates pending further action.

In a press release signed by the Head of Public Affairs, John K. Kapi, WAEC said candidates affected by the decision can visit https://irreg.waecgh.org and click on the withheld or cancelled button on the homepage to view the reasons for the action and the next line of action.

Heads of schools and proprietors may also follow the same procedure using their results listing logins to check the status of their candidates.

The Council used the opportunity to caution all stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee.

WAEC emphasised that its results are secured and can be authenticated.
