KMA Restricts Trading and Vehicular Movement Ahead of August 1 Sanitation Exercise
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA, has directed that all trading activities and shops within designated areas remain closed until 12noon on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as part of the National Sanitation Day.
It noted that there will be a citywide clean-up exercise from 6 am to 12noon and reminded commercial drivers that no vehicular movement will be permitted in the operational areas during the stipulated period.
In a public announcement dated July 29, 2026, the Assembly said the exercise forms part of the Government’s monthly initiative to tackle sanitation challenges across the country.
According to the KMA, the clean-up will focus on seven operational areas within the Kumasi Metropolis.
These include the stretch from Krofrom Traffic Light to Yenyawuso, Krofrom Traffic Light to Tafo Nhyiaeso, Nana Afodwo Stress, Krofrom Traffic Light to Suame Roundabout on both sides, Wesco School Gate at Rango to Krofrom Traffic Light, X-5 Pub to Krofrom Traffic Light, and Krofrom “Columbia” Street.
The Assembly called on residents, traders, corporate organisations, and other stakeholders to fully participate in the exercise to ensure its success.
“It is also hoped that the public will abide by this directive and join in cleaning their surroundings so that together we can keep the city clean and healthy,” the statement added.
