WAEC Warns Against Fraudsters Promising To ‘Upgrade’ BECE Results For a Fee 

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cautioned candidates, parents and the general public to be wary of individuals and groups claiming they can upgrade Basic Education Certificate Examination School Candidates (BECE) results for a fee.

In a press release announcing the release of the 2026 provisional results for the exam, WAEC said it has become aware of fraudsters who approach candidates with promises to manipulate or upgrade their results.

The Council stressed that all WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated through official channels.

According to the Council, no individual has access to alter results after they have been processed and released.

WAEC urged stakeholders to disregard such offers and report any persons who make such claims to the appropriate authorities.

The Council explained that attempts to engage fraudsters not only lead to financial loss but can also create legal problems for candidates.

The warning comes as WAEC released the provisional results of 620,243 candidates who sat for the 2026 BECE for School Candidates.

The results have been sent to schools through Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education, and are also available online at www.waecgh.org.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of its examinations and called on the public to rely only on official WAEC platforms for result verification.
