Ginger, Crab, Cashew, Others Top High Inflation Items List in September 2025

Among the top 10 high inflation items as reflected in the September 2025 inflation statistics are ginger, crab and cashew.

The rest are fresh coconut, Avocado, foreign apple, Palm fruits, cinema/cultural services, lime and vegetable oil.

These contributed 16.6% inflation in the month under review, data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) shows.

Meanwhile, the top 10 contributors of inflation are smoked herring, vegetable oil, charcoal, cinema/cultural services, ginger, cooked rice, electricity, fish, onions and beef.

These contributed 42.3% to inflation.

General Inflation
The year-on-year Consumer Price Inflation for September dropped to 9.4 per cent from 11.5 per cent in August 2025.

This is the lowest since August 2021 and the ninth consecutive decline.

According to the Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, overall price inflation between August and September increased by 0.9%.

He explained that this depicted that while inflation slowed, households still saw small price increases in the short term.

Food inflation declined to 11.0 per cent while non-food inflation dipped to 8.2 per cent, with inflation for locally produced items hitting 10.1 per cent and that of imported items recording 7.4 per cent for September.

Regional Inflation
Regionally, the North East Region had the highest inflation at 20.1%; 14.9% for Upper West Region; 12.2% for Western North; 11.8% for Western and 11.1% for Eastern Region.

The Bono East, however, recorded the lowest inflation rate at 1.2%.

The Ashanti Region, Greater Accra Region, Eastern, Western and Central regions were the top five regional contributors of inflation.
