Togbe Afede “Open” For NDC Running Mate Position

The Agbogbomefia of the Asorgli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has alluded to his interest in taking up the running mate position of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

He says he is keen on sharing his manifold knowledge and expertise with the government to further the cause of development as he harbours a passion for the development of Ghana.

It comes on the back of recent links to the running mate position of the opposition party which is yet to make known their choice.

In a press statement, the Secretary to the Paramount Chief said he had received numerous petitions to step up for the position in the NDC with the latest coming from a group calling itself “Change Makers Forum”.

“Togbe responded that, as a patriotic citizen, he would not reject any opportunity to serve the country, but the choice of a running mate is the prerogative of the flag bearer who already knows him very well.

“Togbe considers it a great honour that a group of well-intentioned professionals called on him to express their trust in him, and thus their desire for him to be the next Vice President of Ghana. But Togbe has not mandated anybody or group to “lobby” for his choice as running mate.”

Former President John Dramani Mahama chose Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, former Minster for Education, as his running mate in the 2020 general elections and eventually lost.

After winning the bid last year to run for presidency in this year’s election, it is unknown if he will go in for a former Minister of State. He is yet to officially announce who runs with him.
