Fred Nuamah Endorses Dumelo After Ayawaso West-Wuogon Primaries Withdrawal

Movie producer Fred Nuamah has thrown his weight behind his “brother” John Dumelo in his quest to win the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso West-Wougon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

This comes in the wake of the producer cum politician’s decision to back down from the primaries.

Nuamah announced his contest with a flyer in February this year after his long-time friend John Dumelo announced his bid resulting in tensions between the two.

In an interview with Graphic, he claimed he decided to contest because Dumelo decided not to contest for the seat any longer. He also said he had received the blessings of Dumelo and characterised calls for his withdrawal as late.

“Frankly, it’s too late to step down. My brother informed me and a lot of people that he was not going to contest the Ayawaso West-Wuogon again. He gave me his blessings when I made up my mind to contest. Truthfully, I am surprised about his U-turn because it was evident and crystal clear that he was not going to contest for the Ayawaso West-Wuogon seat anymore,” he is quoted as saying.

But this was denied by Dumelo during an interview on UTV. He described Nuamah as a liar and called his action a stab in the back.

“Two months ago, he called to tell me he had heard about my bid to contest and congratulated me, now he is saying I gave him my blessings. When did I give my blessings…That’s a betrayal. It’s a stab in the back. {he did this} after my relations with him for 20 years.”

In a statement dated August 7, Nuamah announced his withdrawal from the Ayawaso West-Wuogon NDC parliamentary primaries and endorsed Dumelo.

“In light of my withdrawal, I wholeheartedly endorse and throw my support behind my good friend and brother, Mr John Dumelo, to be the parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency.

“I urge all my supporters across all levels of the party in the constituency to rally behind John Dumelo and provide him with needed support. Together, with a renewed sense of togetherness, we can secure victory in the 2024 elections and uplift our nation from its current state.”

He said the decision was personal and meant to give the NDC a formidable ground for unity in the lead-up to the 2024 General Elections.

“I firmly believe that the NDC must present a unified front for the 2024 general elections. As a dedicated member of the NDC, I prioritize the party’s unity and the President John Mahama project aimed at rescuing our country.
