National Conference to Stem Indiscipline in SHSs Begins Tomorrow

The Ministry of Education is set to convene a landmark National Conference on Stemming Indiscipline in Senior High Schools.

The event will take place on Wednesday, July 29 and 30, 2026, in Sunyani, as part of efforts to tackle the growing challenge of indiscipline in Ghana’s second-cycle institutions.

The conference is expected to bring together key stakeholders to deliberate on practical and sustainable solutions to restore discipline, character, and academic excellence in SHSs.

Ahead of the event, the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, held a strategic engagement with members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools [CHASS] to discuss the state of discipline in senior high schools and the collective responsibility required to address it.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Minister to welcome distinguished guests and stakeholders expected to participate in the national dialogue.

According to the Ministry, the conference will serve as a broad-based consultative platform bringing together education administrators, teachers, students, parents, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, security agencies, and development partners.

Participants will examine the root causes of indiscipline and propose practical interventions.

Deliberations and recommendations from the two-day forum will form the basis of a comprehensive policy paper to guide the Ministry in developing a coordinated national framework for addressing indiscipline in SHSs and strengthening values-based education across the country.

“The Ministry is confident that the conference will mark a significant step toward building safer, more disciplined, and academically conducive learning environments for all Ghanaian students,” the statement said.
