GES Condemns Attack on Teachers, Destruction of Property at Bawku SHS During WASSCE

The Ghana Education Service has strongly condemned the violent assault on two teachers and the destruction of property at Bawku Senior High School in the Upper East Region by some students of the school.
In a statement, GES said reports link the attack to the strict enforcement of examination regulations and invigilation during the ongoing WASSCE.
The Management described the actions of the alleged students as “unacceptable, unjustifiable, and contrary to the core values of discipline, respect, and integrity that underpin education.”
The Service said attacks on teachers in the course of their official duties represent a serious breach of school discipline and a direct threat to the safety of staff.
“Management views such incidents with grave concern,” the statement noted.
According to GES, security personnel have been deployed to Bawku SHS, and normal academic and examination activities are continuing under enhanced protection arrangements.
The two affected teachers are also receiving the necessary medical attention and support.
A full investigation is underway in collaboration with security agencies to identify all individuals involved.
The GES stated that those found culpable will face the full rigours of the law, in addition to disciplinary procedures under GES regulations.
The incident highlights growing concerns over violence in schools during high-stakes exams like WASSCE, where strict invigilation often sparks tension between students and supervisors.
