We Handle Our Issues Indoors; Asantehene to New KNUST Governing Council

The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has oriented the reconstituted Governing Council of the institution on key issues.
The Council, principally tasked with providing strategic oversight, ensuring adherence to the University’s mission, and guiding KNUST in its pursuit of excellence in science, technology, and innovation, was inaugurated on April 28, 2025.
It comprises a diverse group of individuals drawn from academia, government, industry, and civil society.
The council visited the Manhyia Palace on May 9, 2025, to formally introduce its members to the Asantehene.
Leading the group was the traditional leader of Asafo, Akyamfoɔ Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, who serves as the Governing Chair.
He introduced other members of the Council which included Prof. (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Gloria Naa Amanuah Appoh, Prof. Leonard Derkyi-Kwarteng, and Prof. Abdul Samed Muntaka, representing academic and professional expertise, Prof. Samuel Asare-Nkansah and Ing. Dr Daniel Opoku, representing Convocation and Prof. Dr. Eric Kwabena Kyei Abavare, representing the University Teachers Association.
Mr Kane Nana Francis and Mr Gabriel Alexander Kpevu represent undergraduate and postgraduate students, respectively. Dr. Herman Yobo Addae represents the KNUST Alumni Association, Mr Michael Ayuune representing the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), Mr. Zachariah Suleman Yeboah representing the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and Dr Frimpong Kaakyire Duku representing the National Education Commission.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Akyeamfuo said it was imperative that they introduce themselves to the overlord before their official work commenced.
“We were inaugurated and sworn in as the Governing Council. It belongs to our lord and so we had to come to formally introduce ourselves to him. We haven’t commenced work. We needed to come here first.”
In his speech, Otumfuo noted that KNUST is a family-like institution and therefore handles all issues as such.
His Majesty stated that conflicts and all issues are handled in the spirit of goodwill.
“All issues that come up at the KNUST are handled as a family matter. We address all our issues indoors. I don’t want any litigation.”
The Council will hold its first meeting on May 13.
