Support Asantehene’s Efforts to Resolve Bawku Conflict – Bishop Appeals

The Bishop of the Kumasi North Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt. Rev. Sampson Obeng Agyei, has called on all stakeholders to rally behind the government and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to help find a lasting solution to the protracted Bawku conflict.

Speaking at the maiden Synod of the Kumasi North Diocese, Bishop Obeng Agyei commended the government’s decision to entrust the Asantehene with leading the mediation efforts, describing it as a step in the right direction toward achieving peace.

He expressed concern about the devastating impact the long-running conflict has had on the people of Bawku and surrounding communities, emphasizing that a united front is needed to end the violence and restore stability to the area.

The Bishop urged all parties involved, including traditional authorities, political leaders, and civil society groups, to offer their full support to the Asantehene’s mediation process to ensure its success.

Meanwhile, Asantehene is set to resume mediation efforts between the feuding fractions in the long-standing Bawku conflict today, April 28.
