Ashanti Region to Join Two-Day National Clean-Up Exercise

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to mobilise residents for a Two-Day National Clean-Up Exercise slated for July 10 and 11, 2026.

In a press release signed by Chief Director, Michael Owusu Amoako, Esq., the ARCC said the exercise follows a declaration by President John Dramani Mahama.

The exercise is aimed at improving environmental sanitation, preventing sanitation-related diseases, mitigating flooding, and promoting healthier communities.

The Council said all MMDAs, in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited and other stakeholders, have been tasked to coordinate activities within their jurisdictions.

Friday, July 10, 2026 has been designated as Institutional Clean-up Day, where all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MMDAs, educational institutions, health facilities, security establishments, and public and private institutions are expected to clean their office premises and immediate surroundings.

The Ghana Education Service has also been requested to ensure the participation of all Basic, Junior High and Senior High Schools across the region.

Saturday, July 11, 2026 will be observed as Community Clean-up Day with residents encouraged to take part in desilting drains, clearing choked gutters, removing refuse, and cleaning public spaces, markets, lorry parks, and other environmentally sensitive areas.

The ARCC announced that the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Ambulance Service, and other security agencies will support community mobilisation on Saturday to ensure the success of the exercise.

The Council is also calling on traditional authorities, religious bodies, market associations, transport unions, youth groups, civil society organisations, the private sector, and all residents of the Ashanti Region to actively participate.

“Together, let us work towards building a cleaner, healthier and flood-resilient Ashanti Region,” the statement said.
