Mahama Orders Fast-Tracked Relief For Flood-Hit Areas

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday directed government agencies to fast-track interventions in the hardest-hit areas following floods that have affected seven regions across the country.

The directive came during a National Security Council meeting chaired by the President to assess the impact of the recent flooding and coordinate the national response.

The Council received updates from the Post-Flood Mitigation Task Force and its subcommittees on ongoing relief efforts, recovery work, and plans to strengthen Ghana’s resilience against future floods.

According to a statement, the Task Force outlined current support for affected communities, including relief distribution, infrastructure assessments, and coordination with local authorities to restore essential services.

President Mahama directed relevant agencies to fast-track interventions in the hardest-hit areas and ensure that relief reaches those in need without delay.

The meeting also addressed long-term measures to reduce flood impact, with discussions on improved drainage systems, early warning systems, enforcement of building regulations in flood-prone areas, and stronger coordination between national and regional disaster agencies.

“Government remains committed to safeguarding lives, supporting affected communities, and implementing long-term solutions to mitigate the impact of flooding,” the statement added.

Authorities say damage assessments are still ongoing in the seven affected regions to guide further support and reconstruction efforts.
