A/R: NALAG Donates 49,450 Exercise Books To Support Education In Deprived Communities

The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana has donated 49,450 exercise books to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council for distribution to deprived communities across the region.

The books were presented on Monday, July 28, 2026, as part of NALAG’s nationwide initiative to support basic education in underserved areas, with the goal of promoting efficient local governance through education.

Presenting the items, Hon. Nana Yaw Wiredu, Regional Representative of NALAG and Presiding Member of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, said the donation followed a resolution by NALAG’s National Executives at their last conference.

“Education is key to efficient local governance. This is why NALAG resolved to support education in deprived communities nationwide,” he said.

Hon. Wiredu noted that each of the 43 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Ashanti Region is expected to receive 1,150 exercise books for onward distribution.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Chief Director of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Assistant Director Mr Andy Ampofo Ghanson thanked NALAG for the gesture. He assured that the books would be distributed to the various MMDAs for needy pupils.

Also speaking, Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong, Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and First Vice President of NALAG, described the initiative as “transformative.”

He added that the programme is expected to continue in subsequent years to achieve a lasting impact, and urged the assemblies to ensure the books reach the intended beneficiaries in deprived communities within their jurisdictions.
