SSNIT Director-General Sacked

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has terminated the appointment of Dr John Ofori-Tenkorang, the Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

In a letter by the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, addressed to Dr Ofori-Tenkorang and dated April 8, 2024, Dr Ofori-Tenkorang was directed to hand over to Mr Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, a son of Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo.

“In accordance with paragraph 8 of the said appointment letter, I regret to inform you that the President has terminated your appointment effective 15th April 2024 with three (3) months salary in lieu of notice.”

He was also directed to “hand over and cease to act” as the D-G no later than the close of business on Monday, April 15, 2024, to ensure a smooth transition.

Mr. Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo is currently the Director-General in charge of Investment and Development at SSNIT. He was appointed in 2017.

His appointment later generated controversy from the camp of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who accused the Senior Minister of creating key positions in state enterprises and furnishing them with his sons.

However, at the time, Osafo Marfo rose to the defence of his sons, asserting they were competent.
