Police Deny Arrest Of Interdicted Obuasi SHTS Headmaster Zakaria Abdulai

Police in Bekwai have dismissed reports that Zakaria Abdulai, the interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), has been arrested.
The Bekwai Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Lloyd Baidoo, clarified the situation in an interview, contradicting an earlier statement by the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, that the headmaster had been arrested.
Speaking on the matter, ASP Baidoo said Abdulai remained at home and had not been taken into custody.
“As I speak to you, he has not been arrested. He is at home. So far, to the best of my knowledge, no arrest has been affected,” ASP Baidoo said.
Mr Muntaka had told Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, that the case had been moved from the Ashanti Regional Police Command to Police Headquarters in Accra for further investigations.
He explained that the matter was brought to his attention on September 7, 2026, following the submission of a report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). He said he subsequently pushed for the case to be transferred to the national headquarters.
The Interior Minister also disclosed that investigators were working through the legal processes to obtain a DNA sample from Abdulai to compare with semen reportedly found on a dress belonging to one of the alleged victims.
Abdulai, who serves as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary for the Juaben Constituency, has resigned from the position and withdrawn from the contest for the constituency chairmanship.
He remains interdicted as headmaster of Obuasi SHTS while investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students continue.
