UG Directs Students With CGPA Below 1.00 To Withdraw

The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes of study.

In a notice issued on Thursday, October 22, the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate said the directive was in line with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which outlines the requirements for academic progression.

The Directorate explained that students must meet the minimum CGPA requirement and satisfy their respective schools’ or departments’ academic requirements to progress to the next level. It stressed that the regulation does not provide for probation.

“The regulation provides that, to progress to the next level, a student must obtain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.00 or better and satisfy School/Departmental requirements. There is no probation.”

The Directorate further stated that students whose CGPAs remain below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released at the end of the academic year are required to withdraw from their programmes.

“Accordingly, students whose CGPAs fall below 1.00 upon receipt of all grades for their registered courses at the end of the 2025/2026 Academic Year are not in good academic standing and are required to withdraw from their programmes of study.”

Affected students have been asked to check their CGPAs on the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and use the Student and Staff Portal (STS) to begin the withdrawal process.

The Directorate outlined the steps students must follow in the notice.

“Affected students are to check their CGPAs on the MIS Web, log in to the STS Portal (sts.ug.edu.gh/services) with their Student ID and PIN and select “Withdrawal Request” to initiate the process.”

It added that for some programmes, the relevant school or department would initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.

Students seeking clarification have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices. The university’s Careers and Counselling Directorate is also available to provide support and guidance to those affected.
