We Are Honoured And Inspired By Your kingdom – Gambia’s Chief Justice To Otumfuo

The Chief Justice of The Gambia, Justice Edrissa M. O. Faal, has expressed admiration for the Ashanti Kingdom, describing it as an inspiration following a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

He said the opportunity to visit the kingdom and meet the Asantehene was an honour, particularly given the rich heritage of the Ashanti Kingdom.

“We’ve gone to the museum, we’ve looked around, and we are indeed honoured and inspired by your kingdom,” Justice Faal said.

He made the remarks when he, accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Mariama Faal, and a delegation from The Gambia and the Ghana Bar Association, paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Justice Faal expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for receiving the delegation at short notice, describing the opportunity to meet him as a privilege.

He also noted that some members of his delegation had an interest in African history and had learnt about the rich heritage of the Ashanti Kingdom.

The Chief Justice praised Ghana’s judiciary, explaining that the delegation’s visit to the country was motivated by its respect for Ghana’s practice of the rule of law.

“Ghana has been an inspiration to our country, The Gambia, and it goes back decades,” he said.

Justice Faal further highlighted the longstanding judicial ties between the two countries, noting that Ghanaian judges had served on The Gambia’s High Court.

“As I stand here, we have Ghanaian judges sitting in the High Court in The Gambia,” he said.

The delegation toured the Manhyia Palace Museum before meeting the Asantehene, who congratulated Justice Faal on his appointment.
