Otumfuo’s Blessings Propelled GCB Bank PLC’s Historic Profits — MD
The Managing Director of GCB Bank PLC, Farihan Alhassan, says the secret behind the bank’s historic financial success is the blessings of the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
During a courtesy call on His Majesty at the Manhyia Palace on July 24, 2026, Mr Alhassan recalled his first official visit with his team, during which the Asantehene laid hands on him and blessed him.
He said those blessings propelled the unprecedented feat that was recorded.
“His blessings resulted in our bank recording profits that we have never dreamt of,” he said.
He used the occasion to express his profound gratitude to the Asantehene.
“Anytime someone blesses you, the good thing to do is to go back and let him know you appreciate what he has done. Our presence here today is to let my grandfather know that I don’t take those blessings for granted. We don’t assume that the historic profits that we have made were out of our hard work. It was due to the hand he put on my head,” he stated.
He further highlighted the confidence gained by the bank, alongside the accompanying expectations for more success, and sought the continuous blessings of Otumfuo.
“My presence here is to ask for his blessings. Because your grandson has led the bank into historic profit, there will certainly be a lot of expectations, and I need those blessings to execute that,” he said.
Mr Alhassan also assured His Majesty of the bank’s commitment to partnering with the Palace to advance development.
“We want to reassure you that the Bank is eager to partner with the Kingdom for economic prosperity,” he said.
The Asantehene commended the team behind the feat, particularly the Managing Director.
“Power hasn’t changed him (MD). He remains humble, and that is in accordance with my counsel to him.”
He charged the rest of the team to support him with goodwill, noting that the honour belongs to them.
“Whatever you are doing is for Ghana. If you do well, it will push Ghana. Businesses go outside for loans; however, if we do well, you can help businesses within the country to grow. You all must work with goodwill,” he said.
Meanwhile, Otumfuo urged the institution to put in place requisite policies to entice Ghanaians to save.
“A lot of money is circulating in the market. Make requisite arrangements to get this money. There are a lot of banks, but better policies will entice people to choose you. With this, you will be able to lend to businesses to push the country’s development agenda,” he said.
The Managing Director was accompanied by Margaret Obimpeh, Head of Personal Banking at GCB Bank PLC; Cynthia E. Ofori-Dwumfuo, Chief Marketing, Communications and Customer Experience Officer; Linus Kumi, Head of Corporate Banking; Abraham Ferguson, Chief of Staff; and other officials.
