N/R: Police Arrest Two Suspected Drug Dealers, Seize 170 Parcels of Suspected Indian Hemp

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers and retrieved 170 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in an intelligence-led operation at Katariga in the Tamale Metropolis.

The operation was carried out on July 27, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. by the Northern Regional Special Operations Team, known as Red Maria, as part of the Command’s sustained efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the Region.

According to the Command, the first suspect, Godwin Yamegi, aged 32, was arrested with two parcels of the suspected narcotic substance.

During interrogation, he told police the drugs had been supplied to him by Seth Amekuse, aged 33.

Acting on the information, the team proceeded to Seth Amekuse’s residence at Katariga, where he was arrested. A search of his room led to the recovery of an additional 168 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

In total, police recovered 170 parcels of the suspected substance. The exhibits have been handed over to the Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit for further investigation and processing.

Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. They will be arraigned before court upon the conclusion of investigations to face the appropriate charges.

The Northern Regional Police Command commended members of the public for their continued cooperation and urged citizens to volunteer credible information on drug-related and other criminal activities at the nearest police station.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents by relentlessly pursuing individuals engaged in the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs.
