KMA Arrests 13 as ‘Samansaman’ Sanitation Initiative Returns

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has revived its ‘Samansaman’ sanitation enforcement exercise, with 13 people arrested on the first day of operations.

The crackdown began on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Dichemso.

The patrol was led by Mr Kwaku Poku, Head of the Environmental Health Unit, together with a special task force comprising technocrats and security personnel.

According to KMA, the ‘Samansaman’ initiative has been reintroduced to compel residents to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their homes, businesses, and surroundings.

The Assembly said progress on sanitation in the metropolis has been slow, leading to worsening environmental conditions.

All 13 persons arrested during the Dichemso operation have been arraigned before the Prempeh Assembly District Court for prosecution.

KMA says it is committed to enforcing sanitation laws decisively to make Kumasi cleaner, healthier, and safer for residents.

The Assembly added that similar exercises will be rolled out across other communities in the metropolis.

The Assembly is calling on the public to support the drive.

“A clean Kumasi is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s all do our part by keeping our surroundings clean and disposing of waste responsibly,” KMA stated.
