KATH Accident & Emergency Centre Resumes Full Operations, Amoakohene Confirms

The Accident and Emergency Centre at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has fully resumed operations after a temporary shutdown caused by congestion, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene has announced.

In a Facebook post today, the Minister said he was briefed by KATH’s CEO that the facility is back to normal, after which he coordinated an intervention with the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate and health facilities across the region to redistribute cases and keep emergency care running without interruption.

“I thank the management and staff of KATH, the Regional Health Directorate, and all partner health facilities for their swift response and collaboration,” Dr Amoakohene stated.

He said the incident highlights the need for the government’s push to expand healthcare infrastructure and strengthen referral services in Ashanti.

He highlighted key projects including the resumption of work on the KNUST Medical Centre with over GHS 400 million in GETFund support, the ongoing construction of a Cath Lab Facility at KATH, and efforts to improve specialised care across the region.

The Minister added that the Central Government will soon provide an update and roadmap for completing and operationalising the Sewua Regional Hospital and Afari Military Hospital, plus progress on other major health installations.

He noted these investments are critical to easing pressure on existing facilities and improving access to quality healthcare.

“Government remains committed to building a resilient healthcare system that meets the growing needs of the Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole,” he added.
