Ghana Pledges Support for New ECOWAS Chairman President Bassirou Diomaye Faye

Ghana has congratulated His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, on his election as the new Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said Ghana wishes President Faye “great success, wisdom and courage in his stewardship.”

“President Faye can always count on Ghana’s principled support and genuine cooperation,” Ablakwa stated.

President Faye was elected Chairman at the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority held in Lungi, Sierra Leone, over the weekend.

The summit brought together West African leaders to deliberate on regional integration, peace, security and economic cooperation.

Ghana’s endorsement comes as ECOWAS faces key challenges including strengthening democratic governance, boosting intra-regional trade, and addressing security threats in the Sahel.

The new ECOWAS Chair is expected to lead efforts to deepen integration and restore stability in the region during his tenure.

President John Dramani Mahama represented Ghana at the summit.
