Ghana Navy Intercepts 59 Sacks of Marijuana
The Riverine Command of the Ghana Navy has intercepted a canoe carrying 59 sacks of marijuana during an intelligence-led anti-narcotics operation at the Ada estuary.
The operation took place at about 5:30 a.m. on July 19, 2026, when the naval team intercepted a canoe attempting to cross the estuary into the open sea.
The occupants abandoned the canoe and swam away after spotting the naval team.
A search conducted on the said canoe uncovered 59 sacks of marijuana, 24 containers of 25-litre fuel, two 40-horsepower outboard motors, a Tecno mobile phone, and a Voter’s ID card.
The Ghana Navy subsequently handed over the seized items to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) for further investigations.
Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects who fled the scene.
