GES Orders Temporary Closure of Zohe E.P. Schools

The Ghana Education Service has ordered the temporary closure of Zohe Evangelical Presbyterian Schools in the Yendi Municipality following a violent attack on the school premises on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

In a statement issued on Friday, GES said the incident stemmed from a disagreement between some community members and school authorities over an attempt to erect a commercial shed on the school premises.

Following the disagreement, the community members fired multiple warning shots into the air.

The Headmaster of Zohe E.P. Junior High School, Mr Mohammed Shani Gazali, was assaulted during the attack and later treated at the hospital and discharged.

According to GES, although no casualties were recorded, the incident caused significant panic, disrupted academic activities, and resulted in the vandalisation of some school property.

The matter has since been reported to the Police.

In the interest of the safety and security of learners and staff, GES said the Zohe E.P. Schools will remain closed temporarily while engagements continue with relevant stakeholders.

The school will be reopened on Monday, July 13, 2026, if clearance is received from security.

Management condemned the act of vandalism in the strongest terms and warned that any attack on members of the school community, including staff and students, and any act that renders the school environment unsafe for teaching and learning, will not be tolerated.
