Ablekuma North Election: NPP Candidate Rejects Rerun

The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North, Akua Afriyie, has opposed the announced rerun of the Ablekuma Parliamentary election in 19 polling stations.

According to her, the decision by the Electoral Commission is unacceptable as the collation of results was outstanding in only three polling stations.

“I am not happy with it. We are not going to accept this decision. My reason is very simple. We have gone through all the collation, and we are at three polling stations for us to complete the collation and declaration, and so what changed?” she told CNR.

She expressed bewilderment at the sudden change in stance by the Commission after declaring to Parliament that only three polling stations were left for collation.

“So if NDC is bent on taking the seat, and going to the extent of requesting a re-run and EC that has always insisted that we are left with only three polling stations, comes back to say that ‘we have agreed with NDC’s decision,’ then where are we? We are not agreeing to this.”

The EC has set July 11, 2025, to conduct a rerun in 19 polling stations in the constituency.

The Commission in a statement explained that the 19 scanned Polling Station results used for the collation were not verified by the Presiding Officers responsible for those Polling Stations.

“It is instructive to note that, the Commission was able to secure the Presiding Officers’ verification and confirmation for 18 scanned Polling Station results – Agents of both parties also approved same. A rerun will therefore not be held in those Polling Stations.”
