World Cup: Declare Food Items or Risk Seizure- Ghanaians Travelling to Canada Warned

The Ghana High Commission in Canada has advised Ghanaians travelling for the FIFA World Cup 2026 to comply with Canada’s strict regulations on food, plant, and animal products to avoid delays and seizure of items at entry points.
In a statement, the Mission said the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued guidance for visitors ahead of the tournament, which Canada will co-host with Mexico and the United States from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
The High Commission warned that certain food items are prohibited from being brought into Canada.
These include meats, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables.
The restrictions are designed to prevent the introduction of plant pests and animal diseases into the country.
“Failure to comply may result in confiscation and disposal of items at the border,” the statement noted.
The Mission urged all travellers to review the official CFIA requirements before departure to avoid inconvenience at Canadian airports and land borders.
Detailed information is available on the CFIA website under “Bringing food into Canada for personal use.”
“The High Commission urges all travellers to comply fully with these regulations to ensure a smooth entry into Canada,” it added.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first edition hosted across three countries, with several matches scheduled in Canadian cities including Toronto and Vancouver.
Ghanaian fans planning to attend are expected to transit through Canadian entry points during the tournament period.
