EC Deputy Bossman Asare to Resign on July 31

Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu says Dr Bossman Asare will step down as Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission on 31 July 2026.
Addressing a presser on June 15, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu said Dr Asare has formally submitted his resignation letter to President John Dramani Mahama.
“Dr Bossman Asare has submitted a letter to H.E the President indicating that effective July 31, 2026, he will resign from his position as Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission,” the Spokesperson stated.
According to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, Dr Asare said he intended to return to academia and pursue his career as a staff member of the University of Ghana.
The EC Deputy Chair also expressed gratitude to the President and people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve.
Kwakye Ofosu also disclosed that the Commission’s other Deputy Chairperson, Mr Samuel Tettey, had also gone on retirement.
With two key vacancies at the EC, the government says processes to fill them are underway.
“In that regard, processes are underway. The Council of State has already been given a nominee. Once that process is completed, an announcement will be made for a replacement of Mr Tettey and, in due course, a replacement for Dr Bossman Asare,” he said.
