Opemsuo Radio Clocks 4 Years

The certified mouthpiece of the Manhyia Palace, Opemsuo Radio, is four years old today, May 6, 2024.

The subsidiary of the Ashanti Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the media organisation of the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was established in 2020 when the King marked his 70th birthday.

It was established to propagate the works of the King and impart and transmit the culture and tradition of the Kingdom to the next generation.

The media organisation has strayed from the status quo, carving a niche for itself in its educative, informative and entertaining broadcasts, much to the admiration of its growing audience across the country and beyond.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the ABC, Mr Emmanuel Osei Sarfo, characterises the impact of Opemsuo Radio in the past four years as manifold.

According to him, the media organisation has achieved much in line with its objectives.

“There are some misconceptions and fears when it comes to visiting the Palace which denies people the benefit of accessing information from the King. We seek to demystify that and break the communication gap between the Palace and the Kingdom.

“We also seek to educate people on our culture. There is an adage that, ‘You miss your way when you miss out on the sound of the horn of your folks.’ Our coming has solved this problem. Opemsuo Radio’s morning show is culture-centred. We engage and enlighten our audience about our culture and the cases the King resolves. Now people do not have to come to Manhyia to witness the resolution of disputes because we serve it to them right in the comfort of their homes.”

Unlike all media organisations with politics taking centre stage, Opemsuo Radio distinguishes itself rather with a developmental show dubbed Nkwantannanso.

“We are not into political shows but we focus on development, so we have developmental shows. We seek to address pertinent challenges confronting the Ashanti Region and beyond. With this, we focus on shedding light on areas experiencing developmental deficits for attention.”

Aside from that, Opemsuo is making strides in the entertainment aspect, airing uniquely educative yet entertaining programmes both during weekdays and weekends to kick boredom out of the homes of our cherished audience.

As young as the media organisation is, Mr Osei Sarfo recognizes that it has found its feet among competitors with its uniquely crafted programmes.

“We are just four years but our impact is like that of a 10-year-old media organisation.”

Opemsuo Radio knocked on the doors of radio listeners for the first time on May 6, 2020, when Otumfuo was celebrating seven decades on planet Earth.

According to Mr Osei Sarfo, the move was a literal projection of the King’s vision to see culture and tradition imparted and embedded into the youth.

“The media house belongs to the King and that is why we consciously hit the airwaves on May 6, his 70th birthday.  It’s the vision of the King.”

Future
Despite the tremendous impact it’s had within four years, Mr Osei Sarfo recognizes that much more is expected of the media organisation with a quest to reach a much wider audience within and beyond the country.

“In as much as we have made much impact, there is more to do. Much more is now expected of us. In the next few years, we hope to do it and do it better. With the introduction of online TV and more, we hope to reach a wider audience and play a role in the development of Asanteman and Ghana. We also aim at bringing people into the known of the great works of the leader of Asanteman in Ghana, Africa and Beyond.”
