WAEC Releases WASSCE Results; 32% Failed In English

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released provisional resultso for the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Candidates can view their results on the website of the WAEC.

According to a statement from the Council, 134, 103 representing 32.05% failed in English language; 99, 579 representing 23.84% failed in Mathematics; 98, 565 representing 23.64% failed in Science; and 100, 185 representing 24% failed in Social studies.

On the other hand, 252,502 representing 60.39% obtained between A1 and C6 in English Language; 256,264 representing 61.39% in Mathematics; 260,335 representing 62.45 % in Science; and 298,327 representing 71.51% in Social Studies.

The Council says there is an upward trend in the performance of candidates at Grade C6 and better in Social Studies over 2020, 2021 and 2022.

It announced that subject results of 3,845 candidates and the entire results of 518 candidates have been cancelled for various examination malpractices.

It also said the entire results of 117 candidates and scripts of candidates from 179 schools in certain subjects have been withheld.

The Council further cautioned candidates against scammers who claim they can upgrade WASSCE results.

“The Council is cautioning all stakeholders, especially candidates, to be on the alert and not fall prey to the activities of scammers who promise to upgrade results for a fee. Candidates are to note that all WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated using the results verification system or by downloading the WAECQR Code. Institutions are also urged to always verify results presented to them to expose incidents of forgery.”

 

422,883 candidates from 977 schools sat for the examination in 2022.

Out of that, 203,753 were males and 219,130 were females.
