Why Asantehene Put Duayaw Nkwanta Royal Houses Contention Settlement on Hold

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has suspended the settlement of the lingering contention over the number of royal houses in Duayaw Nkwanta.
While a faction of the family claims there are only two houses, another contends that there are eight of them.
Brewing Chaos
The case was called before the Asanteman Council on October 19, 2026, for resolution; however, Otumfuo decided to suspend it due to brewing chaos caused by one Akyereko, a member of the Tetrete group who initially laid claim to the stool.
His Majesty while confirming the break-in at the Duayaw Nkwanta Palace by the said individual was informed by the family head, Opanin Kwame Asante, that it took the intervention of the military to quell the unrest.
He also reported that the individual had led the slaughter of a ram to invoke curses.
Justification
Suspending the case, His Majesty classified the contention over the number of royal houses as a family issue while encouraging the factions to exercise restraint so that the rising tensions could be resolved.
“If I settle this dispute and a nominee is selected for the stool, he will not have peace because of what is going on, so allow me to clear that issue first.”
His Majesty intends to summon the said individual for a hearing.
“I will have him called before me so that I can hear his grievances.”
Prove Case
Meanwhile, the Asantehene urged the parties in the royal houses contention to prepare to prove their claims.
“The one who says there are only two houses will prove it by tracing her family tree, while the one who claims eight houses will also have to prove it.”
