Ghana to Post Teachers, Nurses to U.S. Virgin Islands Under New Bilateral Accord

Ghana and the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) have agreed that Ghanaian teachers and nurses will be posted to the tropical U.S. territory located in the Caribbean.
A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is scheduled to be signed in November 2026 in Ghana by the Minister of Labour, Employment, and Job Creation to finalise the agreement.
This follows a meeting between a delegation from Ghana, representing the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Job Creation and the Office of the President, and the senior leadership of the U.S. Virgin Islands Government in St. Thomas on Saturday (October 17, 2026)
The Saturday meeting in St. Thomas was to advance bilateral cooperation in healthcare and education between Ghana and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Ghanaian delegation was led by a Presidential Aide from the Office of the Chief of Staff, Gilbert Attipoe, alongside a Technical Coordinator, Kwabena Bediako Acheampong, and an Administrator and Executive Aide to the Minister of Labour, Employment, and Job Creation, Samuel Kodom.
The diplomatic engagement directly supports ongoing initiatives by Governor Albert Bryan Jr. to strengthen the U.S. Virgin Islands’ critical public sectors.
Discussions focused on establishing a structured bilateral recruitment framework designed to deploy qualified Ghanaian nurses and teachers to fill critical positions across the Virgin Islands.
This landmark partnership underscores the Ghana government’s commitment to expand Ghana’s strategic global partnerships while opening exceptional international career opportunities for Ghanaian professionals.
In his remarks during the meeting, U.S. Virgin Islands Commissioner of Labour, Dr Gary Molloy, announced that a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is scheduled to be signed in November in Ghana by the Minister of Labour, Employment, and Job Creation to finalise the historic agreement.
