Ghanaian Students in Hungary Cry Over Unpaid Stipend and Book Allowance

Ghanaians studying in Hungary have called on the government to release an 11-month stipend and book allowance for two academic years.

In a statement, the group of undergraduate, masters, and PhD students, said they had not received money from the government of Ghana, worsening their financial situation.

“This chronic financial neglect has resulted in a crisis that jeopardizes our education, well-being, and future chances.”

According to them, the situation has plunged them into severe financial distress, academic challenges, psychological strain, health challenges and potential dropout.

The statement said all efforts to engage with government officials through the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat have yielded no results.

It pleaded with the government to immediately remedy the situation by releasing the needed funds; establishing a reliable payment schedule; exploring additional financial support options for affected students; and ensuring regulation dialogue with students abroad.

It stated, “We stress that addressing this issue is not just about the students affected; it is about the future of Ghana and the investment in its young leaders. We sincerely hope that the government and other stakeholders will heed this urgent call to action and come to our aid before any further disasters occur.”
