Senior NPP Members Pay Homage to Asantehene at 5th Akwasidae

Some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) joined thousands of chiefs and residents at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, July 19, 2026, for the fifth Akwasidae festival of the year to pay homage to the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The NPP delegation was led by former Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah.

The visit formed part of the party’s tradition of acknowledging the Golden Stool.

At the durbar, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah formally introduced members of the delegation to His Majesty.

He presented his wife to the Asantehene and also introduced Paul Awentami Afoko, who is seeking to contest for the position of National Chairman of the NPP ahead of the party’s next internal elections.

Other prominent members in attendance included senior NPP member Francis Addae Nimoh, former Subin Member of Parliament Eugene Boakye Antwi, and former Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive Sam Pyne.

The delegation used the occasion to pledge the party’s continued commitment to the development of Asanteman and to seek the Asantehene’s counsel and blessings going forward.
