President Mahama Joins ECOWAS Leaders for 69th Summit in Sierra Leone

President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday joined other Heads of State and Government for the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in the Republic of Sierra Leone.

The summit, held in Lungi, marked the climax of the ECOWAS Mid-Year Statutory Meetings.

Leaders from across West Africa gathered to deliberate on the state of the Community and consider measures to strengthen regional integration, peace, security and economic cooperation.

Ahead of the opening of the high-level meeting, President Mahama participated in a ceremonial tree-planting exercise with his fellow leaders.

He also joined in the commissioning of the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Lungi, the venue hosting the summit.

The new conference facility is expected to serve as a key hub for regional and international meetings in Sierra Leone.

Discussions at the 69th session are expected to focus on pressing regional issues including security threats, economic integration, free movement, and the future of the ECOWAS single currency project.

President Mahama was accompanied by senior government officials.
