WHO Ghana Rep Assumes Office

The newly appointed country Director of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr. Fiona Braka, has assumed office in Ghana.
She presented her credentials to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Monday, May 19, paving the way for her to begin her mandate in the country.
In a Facebook post, the Minister congratulated her on her appointment.
“I congratulate the distinguished public health expert and assure her of Ghana’s unwavering support. We have high confidence in her capacity, track record and targets for Ghana.”
He noted that Ghana will remain unflinchingly committed to multilateralism and will work with the WHO to achieve universal health coverage, health-related SDGs and the President’s vision for Mahama Cares and improved health outcomes.
Dr. Braka is a distinguished public health expert from Uganda with over 20 years of experience in disease prevention, emergency management, and strategic leadership in her new role.
Most recently, she served as Coordinator of Emergency Response Operations at WHO’s Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo.
She holds a Medical Degree from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, and a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the United States.
