Otumfuo Charges Duayaw Nkwanta Abusuapanin to Lead Nomination of Next Chief

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has tasked the family head of Duayaw Nkwanta, Kwame Asante, with leading the process to nominate a suitable royal to ascend the vacant stool.

At the Asanteman Council meeting on May 25, 2026, Otumfuo gave him a traditional blueprint to guide the process.

His Majesty said the heads of the royal households would select their preferred candidate and submit the name to him for onward presentation to the stool elders.

“The heads of the royal households will make the decision and give it to you before you present it to the kingmakers,” Otumfuo stated.

The directive came after the Tetretem and Samantwea houses presented ‘Dibim’ following the dismissal of their false claim to the stool.

Accepting the ‘Dibim’ plea, the Asantehene noted that the Tetretem and Samantwea households should have submitted a request to ascend the stool rather than invoking the Great Oath.

He affirmed that the stool belongs to his wife.
